Heirloom Tomatoes

Hannah gave me some heirloom tomato seed this spring and I have 4 robust plants in the garden now. But there was some other seed mixed in and it took me awhile to figure it out.  It’s tomatillo!  I love tomatillos and grew them a couple years ago. They produced huge amounts of fruit which I chopped fine with peppers, cilantro, lots of garlic and onion.  Then added lime juice, salt, cumin and vinegar for an wonderful raw salsa.

  1. Libby – how is that possible?? I planted 20 and no tomatillas. I wish I had some myself…I LOVE tomatillas. Plus they are so pretty. My heirlooms are doing great – I counted 56 little tomatoes so far. But they are starting to look hungry. I’ll have to give them some fish food. I can’t wait until it’s time for canning. I’ve already put up a lot of raspberry jam…blackberries are next…then the grapes come in.

    1. I don’t know how it happened …a gift from The Mother I guess. I’ll share with you when the harvest comes.
